Population Genetic Structure of Silver Pomfret (Pampus argenteus) in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea, Inferred from 11 Microsatellite Loci

Genetic diversity was assayed at 11 microsatellite loci of silver pomfret captured at 5 sites in 2010 to detect population genetic structure of Pampus argenteus, a commercial important species in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. Results showed 131 alleles over all loci examined. Mean observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.405 to 0.880 respectively. Pairwise F (0.040) and R (0.129) values indicated low genetic ST ST differentiation among regions. Hierarchical Analysis of Molecular Variance (AMOVA) detected high genetic diversity within populations. This suggested that Pampus argenteus forms a single panmictic population with high levels of gene flow in species distribution area of Iranian waters.
